The Phillies announced in a press release this afternoon their tentative 2016 Spring Training schedule. The schedule includes the usual allotment of games in Clearwater, Florida and the rest of the Grapefruit League. But, the Phillies schedule includes something new: two "futures" games.
The schedule will open as it did last year, against the University of Tampa on Sunday, February 28. After a day off on February 29, the Grapefruit action will take place beginning March 1 against the Toronto Blue Jays. The season will conclude with a single "On Deck" game against the Baltimore Orioles, with games with Reading on both ends. (Read about the "Futures" games here).
The schedule is as follows, courtesy Phillies.com:
Game tickets will go on sale November 20, but Spring Training packages are available on the Phillies website now..
Prices are a little bit higher so far compared to last year for hotel rooms, both in Clearwater Central and on the beach. Flights are reasonably priced at the moment, so book them now. One really interesting option not usually available: the chance to see the Flyers in Tampa in the same trip.
The Flyers will take on the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday, March 11, at 7:05 p.m.. The Phillies play the Atlanta Braves away – one of the longer trips – so a trip down to the Amalie Arena in Tampa would make for a fun trip for the Clearwater off day. Tickets for that game are available on the Lightning website.
