The perfect closer from that season, Brad Lidge, whose 48 for 48 dominance was a big reason why the Phillies won, plans to retire as a Philadelphia Phillie, reports Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. Lidge will be honored on Thursday, August 1 when the Phillies face the San Francisco Giants at 7:05 p.m.
I saved my authentic 2008 alternate Phillies jersey in a safe spot. That may be the first time I wear it since Lidge departed.
In Lidge's career, he pitched for the Astros, Phillies, and Washington Nationals. He last pitched last season for the Nationals but was released in June.
