Final: Braves 7, Phillies 1 ❖  Attendance: 27,257

PHILADELPHIA — Things have gone pretty well for the Phillies in May with four straight series wins and has turned their surprising start to the season into a push for first place in the NL East.

But on Friday night, the 10-30 Atlanta Braves exposed the flaws in the Phillies typical winning formula this season. Aaron Nola pitched seven innings, but allowed two home runs while the Phillies bats struggled once again to string together hits in timely fashion. It resulted in a 7-1 loss to the Braves at Citizens Bank Park.

WP: Matt Wisler (2-3, 2.93 ERA)  ❖  LP: Aaron Nola (3-3, 2.85 ERA)  ❖

Nola escaped a first-inning jam with a double play, which allowed the Phillies to grab the early lead in the bottom of the first. Maikel Franco doubled off the wall in left to put runners on second and third with one out. Ryan Howard followed with an RBI groundout to plate Cesar Hernandez.

In the third, the Braves took the lead on a two-out, two-run home run by Freddie Freeman to right. It was his seventh home run of the season.

The Braves put things away with three runs in the seventh. An error by Franco, his second of the game, allowed Mallex Smith to reach second. He scored on a one-out RBI single by Gordon Beckham. Two batters later, Nick Markakis belted his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left, to put the Braves up by four.

Freeman added two more runs in the ninth with his second home run of the game, an opposite-field, two-run shot to left.

Matt Wisler went 6 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and one run with two walks and seven strikeouts.

The Phillies were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base.
