As the Eagles head coaching search approaches its end, another coaching search happening 3,000 miles away has ended.

Chip Kelly has been hired by the San Francisco 49ers head coaching job, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Schefter reported earlier that the 49ers had narrowed things down to Kelly and former Broncos and Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan and were expected to make a decision in the next 24 hours. That decision came less than two hours later.

Kelly was 26-21 with the Eagles in three seasons and was fired on Dec. 29, five days prior to the team's final game of the season.

This news comes on the heels of the Eagles making a strong push to potentially hire Tom Coughlin and Coughlin withdrawing his name from consideration, leaving the Eagles with very limited options. The report from Schefter also comes less than a day after he said on 97.5 The Fanatic that he didn't think Kelly would get hired in the NFL.
