The search is over.
The Eagles will hire Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson to become the next head coach. Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News was the first to report.
The move can not be made official until the Chiefs are officially eliminated from the playoffs. They face the New England Patriots on Saturday.
Pederson has served as the offensive coordinator in Kansas City for the last three seasons, joining the Chiefs when Andy Reid was hired in 2013. Pederson also spent four seasons as a coach with the Eagles under Reid, including two as the team's quarterback coach.
Pederson also played in the NFL from 1993 to 2004, spending one season with the Eagles in 1999.
With the move, the Eagles will likely retain the services of two other candidates. Pat Shurmur will likely return to his role as offensive coordinator after serving as interim head coach for one game and Duce Staley is expected to remain running back coach.
The Eagles have also hired Ken Flajole, who was set to become the defensive coordinator at UTEP, to be a part of the coaching staff in an undisclosed role. Flajole coached in Green Bay when Pederson was a player there and was on the same coaching staff as Shurmur in St. Louis.
