Breaking: Nick Foles traded to St. Louis Rams for Bradford, picks involved

Eagles quarterback Nick Foles has been reportedly traded to the St. Louis Rams, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter:

Filed to ESPN: Rams close to trading QB Sam Bradford to Philadelphia for Nick Foles and draft-pick compensation, per sources.

The official trade was reported at 6:46 pm by Schefter, and later finalized as follows:

Eagles receive:

  • Sam Bradford, QB
  • 2015 5th round draft pick
  • * 2016 conditional pick

Rams receive:

  • Nick Foles, QB
  • 2015 4th round draft pick
  • 2016 2nd round draft pick

2016 conditional pick: 3rd-rounder if Bradford plays in 0% of snaps, 4th-rounder if Bradford plays in less than 50% of snaps

Bradford, 27, was the first overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft out of the University of Oklahoma. The following is an excerpt from our article which describes the health history of the newly acquired Eagle.

The Rams have been in "quarterback limbo" for a large part of the Sam Bradford era, since being drafted first overall in the 2010 draft. He has missed 31 starts over five seasons thus far in his career, largely due to a torn left ACL which sidelined him starting Week 8 of the 2013 season, all the way through the 2014 season, as it was re-torn in preseason action on August 23, 2014.

Yesterday, a report came out from NJ.com's Eliot Shorr-Parks that Foles was being shopped by Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles at this year's Senior Bowl in January, and that three teams were reportedly interested. These teams included the Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans, and surely enough, the St. Louis Rams.

Foles, 26, was drafted 88th overall in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft out of the University of Arizona.

In 24 career starts as the Eagles' quarterback, the Austin, Texas-native posted a 15-9 win-loss record, throwing 46 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

In 2013, Foles threw 27 touchdowns and was intercepted just two times. Additionally, he led the entire NFL in passer rating. In his third start of the season on November 3, after replacing the injured Michael Vick a couple of weeks prior, Foles threw seven touchdowns, which tied the all-time, single-game NFL record.

Foles' historic season from 2013 did not necessarily carry over to the 2014 campaign, based on his performance. In just six fewer throwing attempts over eight starts, he threw 10 interceptions and completed 59.8% of his passes, as opposed to two interceptions and 60.4% the year prior.

He missed the remaining eight games of 2013 due to breaking his collar bone in Week 9 against the Houston Texans. Replaced by Mark Sanchez, the Eagles finished the second half with a 4-4 record after starting 6-2, subsequently missing the playoffs.

Upon being acquired, Bradford was thought to have a $12,985,000 cap hit for the 2015 NFL season, however a recent report from Shorr-Parks suggests otherwise:

Per OTC, the Eagles can release Sam Bradford and not pay him a dime. Would save $12 million.

There is speculation that the assets acquired in today's trade with St. Louis will be flipped as a part of a larger trade to move up in this year's draft and ultimately select Marcus Mariota out of Oregon. The Eagles would either move Bradford in this trade, or cut him since he would have no impact on their salary cap.
