Philadelphia 76ers forward Ben Simmons had surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his right foot back in early October. Normally, it takes between 2-3 months for the injury to fully heal, but Simmons still hasn't participated in full practice and there's no timetable for his debut. That being said, Sixers head coach Brett Brown tells ESPN that he sees Simmons suiting up for the team this year, but the date is unknown.
"Our plan is to still see him on the court, playing games," Brown told ESPN on Wednesday. "We just don't know when."
"I fully expect him to play this season," he added. "He thinks that, and he's motivated to play."
Brown goes on to say that Simmons is running, cutting and jumping, but he hasn't been cleared for full contact yet. Although the head coach expects to see the 2016 no. 1 overall pick in action this season, that decision ultimately lies in the hands of a front office that has been anything but transparent as of late.
Earlier this week, Brown said Simmons will not been doing any sort of 5-on-5 work over the All-Star break, but when the team regroups afterwards, they 'can better craft and construct something that will allow the return to play to be more responsible'.
