The Sixers will hold a press conference at 5pm with Sam Hinkie and Brett Brown to announce a two-year contract extension for the head coach. In two plus seasons with Sixers during their rebuild process, Brown holds a record of 38-149. He was an assistant coach with the Spurs for seven season before coming to Philadelphia.

Brown is the eighth head coach in the last 12 years for the Sixers, who haven't had a stable coach since the Larry Brown era. He signed a four-year contract and three years in, the team may be in its worst shape yet. Despite the teams' record though, Brown remains a teacher to each of his players, coaching them to be better on both sides of the ball. The contract extension shouldn't come as a surprise to most, especially since Brown touched on the subject before the Sixers 51-point loss to the Spurs.
“We are in deep discussions on my contract and I have had amazing conversations with Josh Harris and David Blitzer and Sam Hinkie about my future,” Brown said. “This is where I want to be. To go through what we have all gone through over the past two years and the first third of this year and still be passionate about seeing this through, I dream like everyone else.” [CSNPhilly.com]
Although things seem bleak for Brown's Sixers team this year, the upcoming draft could have big implications on the teams' future. If the Sixers secure the top overall pick and select Ben Simmons out of LSU, it could be the game changer that they need to put this rebuild into high gear. With Simmons, a healthy Joel Embiid and the potential addition of Dario Saric, this team could have an entirely different look come next season.
Meanwhile, Brown seems to be very close with Chairman of basketball operations Jerry Colangelo already, drawing praises from him during his time coaching the Australian team at the London Olympics. That excites Brown for the future.
“I like Brett,” Colangelo said. “He coached against us with the Australian team and he was a great assistant with San Antonio. I think he’s done a heckuva job here despite the circumstances.”
