There's no doubting that this upcoming offseason is the most pivotal one for the Sixers rebuilding process. With the possibility of four first round picks, Dario Saric and Joel Embiid, many fans expect next season to be a big turnaround from this year. While the team will likely get more wins than last season, Sixers head coach Brett Brown tells 94 WIP that some of the expectations being set are 'unrealistic'.
“I think the dramatic increase in the win column — and people can associate whatever number they think dramatic means — I think it’s a little bit unrealistic,” Brown told the 94WIP Morning Show on Tuesday. “I feel like what we’re gonna see next year is, everybody is going to step back and take a deep breath and sort of see and touch and feel a true foundation. Right now, we don’t see it or it feel it as much. I think next year we will.”
One of the other topics that came up was Joel Embiid. With the team already armed with both Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor, the health of Embiid will likely help the Sixers determine which big men they plan to go with moving forward. Whether that mean Noel or Okafor being involved in a trade, what has to be remembered is that even when/if Embiid makes a full recovery, he hasn't played in game action for over two years.
"I feel like everybody in this city has got to be a little be tolerant and patient with Joel Embiid," said Brown. "He hasn’t played basketball, in what? Two and a half years.”
