Brett Brown to represent Sixers at NBA Draft Lottery

Eight days from now, the Sixers will learn their draft fate and the man who has been the face of the rebuild since day one will be there to witness it. On May 17, the NBA will hold the draft lottery and Sixers head coach Brett Brown will represent the Sixers at the New York Hilton Midtown in New York City.

The Sixers hired Brown in August of 2013 and the former Spurs assistant has helped young players develop nicely. Michael Carter-Williams, Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor each have made positives strides under brown with Carter-Williams earning the 2014 Rookie of the Year Award.

"This year’s NBA Draft Lottery tips off the exciting next phase for Sixers basketball,” Brown told Sixers.com Monday.  “I’m proud to represent the city of Philadelphia on behalf of the loyal fans that have supported this team throughout the past three seasons.  We’re looking forward to the many opportunities in front of us this summer to advance our program.” [Sixers.com]

Brown will be armed with assets this season, with up to four draft picks in the first round and the potential additions of both Dario Saric and Joel Embiid.

2016 is the first year since 1990 the NBA has held a lottery process in which the Sixers have the best chances at landing the first overall selection. This year, Philadelphia has a 26.9 percent chance to get the first pick and a 49.5 percent chance to end up with either the first or second pick. The Sixers also own a Lakers top-3 protected pick along with the Heat and Thunder first rounders, which are both protected, but will convey with both clubs in the playoffs.

20 years ago, in the 1996 NBA draft, the Sixers selected Allen Iverson. Fans, coaches and management can only hope that Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram produce similar careers.
