Two former Philadelphia Phillies right-handers Jake Thompson and Alec Asher — acquired in July 2015 from the Texas Rangers in the Cole Hamels and Jake Diekman trade — were respectively acquired and designated for assignment by the Milwaukee Brewers Monday evening.
The Phillies dealt Thompson for cash considerations to the National League Wild Card-leading Brewers, who then optioned him to Triple-A Colorado Springs. The Brewers then designated Asher for assignment to make room for Thompson on the 40-man roster.
Thompson, 24, went 7-8 with a 4.87 ERA, 81-61 strikeout-to-walk ratio and 1.530 WHIP spanning three seasons and 30 appearances with the Phillies from 2016-2018. The Dallas, Texas, native was designated for assignment on Friday to make room for newly-acquired first baseman Justin Bour. Asher, 26, made 12 appearances with the Phillies from 2015 to 2016, before appearing in 24 games with the Baltimore Orioles last season and two games with the Brewers in 2018.
Just Jorge Alfaro, Jerad Eickhoff and Nick Williams remain on the Phillies' roster of the six players that were acquired from the Rangers in 2015.
