The Phillies have added another outfielder to the mix in September, selecting the contract of 31-year-old Brian Bogusevic from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. To make room for Bogusevic, who was not on the 40-man roster, the Phils transferred left-hander Elvis Araujo to the 60-day disabled list.
Bogusevic, just recently named to the International League Post-Season All-Star team, ranks 7th in the IL in batting average at .296. He has 18 doubles, 12 home runs, which leads the Ironpigs, and 57 RBI's. His on-base percentage of .359 ranks 6th in the International League. The former 2005 first round pick played with the Cubs and Astros before being picked up by the Phillies this past season. He leads all IL outfielders with a .996 fielding percentage and has been a consistent bat in Lehigh Valley's lineup all season. In 299 games at the Major League level, Bogusevic has a .236 average. His most recent stint in the majors came in 2013 with the Cubs. He played in 47 games and hit .273 with six home runs and 16 RBI's.
One of the bright spots in the Phillies bullpen, Elvis Araujo, heads to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Bogusevic. He had only allowed one hit since the All-Star break prior to straining his left groin in the 11th inning of the Phillies 13-inning loss to the Mets on August 28th. He sports a 3.38 ERA over 34 2/3 innings this season for the Phillies out of the pen.
Taking Bogusevic's spot on Lehigh Valley's roster will be 23-year-old former 28th round pick from 2010, Brian Pointer. He's hitting .242 with 10 home runs and 33 RBI's. Over his last 10 games, he's hit .286 (10-for-35).
