Eagles legend Brian Dawkins is one step closer to immortality.
Dawkins was named one of 15 modern-era finalists on the ballot for the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday. This is Dawkins first year of eligibility.
"It's a blessing to be mentioned among the names of so many other guys who have made it this far, let alone to be hopefully in the Hall of Fame someday," Dawkins said to the Philadelphia Eagles official website on Tuesday. "I don't take these things for granted. I understand the plight of safeties. To make it this far in my first year, it's a tremendous, tremendous honor."
Dawkins played 13 season with the Eagles, becoming a fan favorite and the ultimate leader over his time in Midnight Green. In 183 games, Dawkins had 34 interceptions, 32 forced fumbles, 16 fumble recoveries, 21 sacks, 707 tackles and three touchdowns.
Dawkins joins LaDainian Tomlinson, Jason Taylor, Morten Andersen, Tony Boselli, Isaac Bruce, Don Coryell, Terrell Davis, Alan Faneca, Joe Jacoby, Ty Law, John Lynch, Kevin Mawae, Terrell Owens and Kurt Warner.
The Hall of Fame Board of Selectors will choose the 2017 class on Feb. 4, the night before Super Bowl LI.
