The Philadelphia Eagles lost their Week 9 game to NFC East rival New York Giants in a sloppy matchup at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.
The Eagles have yet to make a splash in NFC East games. They are 0-3 in the NFC East and the offense has done terrible thus far within those losses. The running backs have struggled with holding onto the football. The tight ends have not been involved — Zach Ertz, where have you been?
The biggest problem for rookie quarterback Carson Wentz is that he has no wide receivers that have made a bang. With Josh Huff's release last week the team was down a receiver and Wentz has really had nobody to throw the ball to down field the entire season. Until now.
Enter Bryce Treggs.
Treggs is the son of the all-time receiving leader at the University of California, Brian Treggs. Like his father, Treggs attended California and was the No. 1 receivers for the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Jared Goff.
An undrafted rookie, Treggs has been a name fans have long-awaited to hear since the Eagles signed him in early September. On Sunday, it showed why he is so well-liked.
Treggs' speed allowed him to get behind the Giants defense and make a huge catch for a 58-yard game, the Eagles longest of the season by a wide receiver. In previous weeks, the Eagles haven’t been able to throw the ball deep, but now with Treggs on the roster, that could and will change.
Treggs' teammates only speak highly of the rookie. "He's definitely got some speed," cornerback Leodis McKelvin said. "He can run deep and stretch the field."
"He obviously does have an asset," fellow wide receivers Jordan Matthews said, "and it's his speed."
In his debut, Treggs had two receptions for 69 yards and played only 15 snaps against the Giants, the least among the four receivers that saw the field. Despite the lack of playing time and the fact he was targeted the fewest among all of the receivers, he finished second among the group with 69 receiving yards.
Head coach Doug Pederson said that Treggs will be seeing more playing time this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. Many are even saying that Treggs should get on the field more than last year’s first round pick, Nelson Agholor.
Now that we know that Wentz has a target downfield, could Treggs become the Falcon slayer on Sunday or will the Falcons defense prey on the newest Eagle?
