By far the biggest addition of free agency thus far for the Eagles has been that of cornerback, Byron Maxwell. The two sides agreed upon a six-year deal worth $63 million dollars. Maxwell began his press conference by thanking Eagles management for this opportunity while also mentioning his former coaching staff and teammates in Seattle. Here are some of his press conference highlights:
Things came together pretty quickly for you and the Eagles. What made it the perfect match?
I think the environment they got here is similar to where I'm coming from, so it was just an easy match, a perfect fit. A lot of things they're doing here are similar, so it just meshed.
What's similar about here and Seattle?
The environment. They talk about greatness and how you can find greatness within yourself and creating daily habits. That's one of the measures they preach here and they do the same in Seattle. The potential is within yourself, so it's easy, it gets around and it creates the best environment.
Did you call anyone, like Chris Maragos, people you knew from before, about what it's like to play for Chip?
Definitely, Chris Maragos and I talked…he was telling me about the environment, what I could expect on a daily routine.
How serious was Seattle in wanting you to come back? Do you guys talk?
Yeah, we talked. I mean ultimately it was a tough decision, but now I'm here, I'm happy with my decision, so I mean, let's go.
What is it about Chip that swung you to come here?
His attitude, how he approaches the game. He loves it. Football is his life and basically football is my life.
How is Chip similar to Pete Carroll?
As far as their measures, they're very similar. I don't know Chip personally really well right now, but as far as their measures to the team, it's very similar.
How will it be different from being around guys like Richard Sherman to coming here and being the guy in Philadelphia?
I don't think it's going to be too much difference versus here and Seattle. I had to do my job in Seattle and when I get here, I'm going to do my job, wherever that may be. The technique and everything was the same in Seattle, so I'm not going to be playing any different technique or anything like that. It's going to be playing cover three man press and that's what I do.
How do you think you'll match-up against guys like Dez Bryant and Odell Beckham Jr.?
I like my shot, I like my chances with them. We played those guys this year and I feel like I played well against them.
