WP: David Buchanan (2-5, 6.44 ERA) LP: Williams Perez (4-1, 4.14 ERA)
Philadelphia, PA – In a busy day where Cole Hamels said goodbye to the city he's called home during his baseball career and where Pat Burrell was put on the Wall of Fame, the Phillies bats showed up in a big way.
The hitting started early in the 1st as both Cesar Hernandez and Odubel Herrera singled of Braves starter Williams Perez. Maikel Franco drew a walk and then Ryan Howard sent them all home with a bases clearing double. Howard would see home himself when Freddy Galvis hit a sacrifice fly to give the Phils and early 4-0 lead.
More runs would come in the 5th as Perez completely fell apart. Howard singled and Domonic Brown hit a two run home run and the bottom of the line up would single Perez out of the game. He would leave giving up nine earned runs in 4.1 innings.
David Buchanan front ran with the runs he was given. He kept the Braves off the boards for six innings and would escape the 7th allowing just one run. Buchanan was back out there for the 8th but ran into trouble as Freddie Freeman hit a two run homer to chase him from the game. Justin De Fratus would finish up the inning for his starter and Dalier Hinojosa made his Phillies debut in the 9th to close out the 9-3 victory.
Another great win as the Phillies continue to play winning baseball here in the second half. Aaron Nola gets the ball tomorrow night against Braves starter Matt Wisler as Alumni Weekend continues.
