By The Numbers: Special teams play sparks team victory.

The Flyers played a defensively sound game tonight. They limited the Devils chances and made the most of theirs. There was just one goal scored at 5v5 play in this goalfest, allowing for the special teams play and goaltending to lead the way to victory.

Overall

The Flyers controlled play during the first period with a shorthanded goal and an even strength goal from the duo of Sean Couturier and Matt Read to get things started, and they never looked back.

The Devils had some sustained pressure and cycled well in the second and third periods, but the Flyers were able to score a power play goal and an empty net goal to seal the victory.

This was a bit of a sandwich, with the top and bottom lines controlling play and keeping the game together while the middle lines got beat.

The third line was able to chip in two goals which were crucial to victory, but didn't do so hot possession wise.

Michael Raffl once again proved why he deserves the top line left wing slot for now, and Pierre-Eduoard Bellemare is making a strong case for being moved up in the lineup.

Defense

Once again a bit of a team effort here. No one really sticks out one way or the other.

Nick Schultz continutes to be a pleasant surprise and Mark Streit's two assists prove why he is one of the Flyers best defensemen.
