Carson Wentz Suffered Hairline Fracture in Eagles Preseason Opener

The Eagles brought Carson Wentz in for his NFL debut just before the conclusion of the second quarter on Thursday night. He finally exited with under five minutes to play in the game.

Wentz took several rough shots from Tampa Bay defenders in the 17-9 Eagles win, including one that caused a hairline fracture to one of his ribs.

Wentz was very limited in practice on Saturday as a result and was sent to have a CT scan after the practice ended, which revealed the damage ribs.

"Carson felt some discomfort and soreness as we began this morning's practice," head coach Doug Pederson said in a statement released by the team. "We decided to limit him throughout the remainder of practice and, as a precaution, sent him for a CT scan after practice. The scan revealed a hairline fracture in his ribs. We do not know an exact timetable for his return, but we hope to have him back before the end of the preseason."

Wentz completed 12 of 24 passes in his debut for 89 yards and one interception, but showed strong poise behind a porous offensive line that left him subject to many hits.

The Eagles will practice on Sunday, without Wentz, in front of the fans at Lincoln Financial Field. Their next game comes on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
