After a relieving Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns, the Eagles must plan to soar even higher as they head into their next matchup. The Eagles will travel to Soldier Field to face the Chicago Bears in order to seek out their second win on the season. Although the Eagles offense looked sharp, the circumstances are always changing week-to-week.
Zach Ertz, who looked to be one of Carson Wentz’s more comfortable receivers to target, will unfortunately be sidelined with a displaced rib. His return time has yet to be determined, but Ertz’s absence shouldn’t worry fans too much.
Last Sunday answered a lot of questions for the Eagles. First and foremost, make no mistake about it, Philadelphia has found their quarterback.
The rookie Wentz stood well in the pocket and seemed almost unfazed by the giant defenders trying to get to him. With confident play from Wentz, this Eagles offense is perfectly able to put points on the board, as long as the wide receivers can comply.
The second thing we learned from Week 1 is that Philadelphia most definitely has playmakers on offense. Jordan Matthews and Ertz accounted for 13 receptions for 172 yards against the Browns. It’s safe to say Matthews and Ertz were Wentz’s favorite receivers to target. The next prominent receiver from last week’s game, Nelson Agholor, was able to haul in a beautiful 35-yard touchdown.
Agholor finally showed that he can do what he was drafted for. While watching his touchdown play, you get a familiar feeling, similar to the feeling Eagles fans had when they watched Jeremy Maclin bring in large gains for touchdowns. Agholor has shown signs of being Philadelphia’s deep threat, all he has to do now is show he can make plays like that more often.
Although a player like Ertz is easily missed on the field, a quarterback like Wentz almost seems to make everybody around him better. When he was given the time, Wentz threw dimes, right where the receivers needed the ball to be.
As long as Philly’s new stud quarterback can get the protection he needs, you can count on him to manage the Eagles into a 2-0 start.
