On Monday afternoon, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson confirmed everyone’s worst fears that Carson Wentz suffered an ACL tear against the Rams on Sunday, ending a season that had him as a front-runner for MVP. Three days after injuring himself in Los Angeles, Wentz had surgery to repair his torn ACL in Pittsburgh.
Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz underwent surgery to repair his ACL this morning by Dr. James Bradley, an orthopedic knee specialist who is based in Pittsburgh, per sources. No other details yet.

Wentz finishes the 2017-18 season with a 60.2 percent completion rate, throwing for 3,296 yards and an Eagles’ franchise-record 33 touchdowns. Chris Mortensen told Eagles fans earlier in the week to expect a 9-12 month recovery period for Wentz, which would put him on track for a September return at the earliest. Obviously everyone heals differently, so Wentz could be back before or after September, but it’s important the Eagles get him to 100 percent before putting him back under center in a game.
Nick Foles will take over as the starting quarterback, but don’t expect a guy like Wentz to let this injury affect his interactions with the team. While he won’t be able to be on the sideline during games, Wentz was already at the Novacare Complex on Tuesday helping Foles game plan for Sunday’s game in New York.
