The Phillies have made their first cut of the 2014 season and the axe falls on right-handed pitcher Chad Gaudin. Gaudin, 30, signed a minor-league deal with the Phils back on January 21.
Sought after as an effective bullpen piece or a starter, who went 5-2 w/ a 3.06 ERA in 30 games (12 starts) last season with the Giants, Gaudin has reportedly failed his team physical and has been released by the organization.
Gaudin hasn't had a long history of injuries in his career, so it's interesting why he failed his physical.
