Charlie Manuel reportedly interested in managing the Washington Nationals

According to Thom Loverro of The Washington Times, Philadelphia Phillies' 2008 World Series Champion Manager and current Senior Advisor to the General Manager, Charlie Manuel, is reportedly interested in becoming the next manager of the Washington Nationals.

Matt Williams, who went 179-145 over two seasons as the Nationals' skipper, was relieved of his duties Monday after failing to make the postseason, per The Washington Post's James Wagner.

Loverro writes:

“I’m not the kind of guy who will pick up the phone and look for a job, but I would definitely be interested in that job,” Manuel said by telephone. “Washington has a good team and they have some good baseball people there.”

Manuel was fired by the Phillies in August 2013 after eight-plus seasons — their most successful manager in franchise history. He led the Phillies to five National League East division titles, two NL pennants and a victory in the World Series in 2008.

If Manuel joined the Nationals, he would reunite with former Phillies Jayson Werth, Jonathan Papelbon and prospect Gio Gonzalez.
