Chen, Orioles shut out Phillies as scoreless streak reaches 21 innings

Aaron Harang cruised through four plus innings, but a late fifth inning miscue in left field paired with a sixth inning three-run home run courtesy of Matt Wieters gave the Orioles a 4-0 win. This is the third time in the last four games that the Phillies have been shutout and no starting pitcher has won a game since May 23rd.

The Orioles took advantage of a Phillies miscue in the fifth. With Aaron Harang looking to cruise through another inning, Travis Snider sent a line drive fly ball to left. Cody Asche misjudged the ball and it hit off the top of his glove, allowing Snider to reach second. J.J. Hardy followed with an RBI-single to give the O's a 1-0 lead.

Baltimore padded on to their lead in the sixth. With two on and one out, Matt Wieters lifted a three-run home run to center, extending the Orioles lead to 4-0.

In the top of the seventh, Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco was ejected after arguing balls and strikes.

Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen threw first pitch strikes to 23 of the 27 batters he faced over his eight shutout innings of work, mowing through the stagnant Phillies offense without any problems.

The Phillies offense has not given their starters any support and tonight was the same story as the team has not scored a run in 21 innings and just three runs over the last 47 innings. On their current road trip, they have gone 0-7 against the Reds, Pirates and  Orioles. Over their last six games, they've scored just seven runs and are the only team in baseball under the 200 run mark.
