It's evident that DeSean Jackson's comments about Darrelle Revis "not being able to run" with him were on Chip Kelly's mind by the time he met the media Wednesday morning at the Novacare Complex.
"We're not having a track meet on Sunday," Kelly said after first requesting a reporter ask his question while stating the full context of Jackson's quote. He called Revis vs. Jackson "a real interesting matchup to watch."
Clearly Kelly was in no mood to talk about Jackson's comments, and even got the original question incorrect when retorting with the reporter.
"That's not exactly what he said," Kelly barked. "He said a bunch of things. Sometimes it's good to put the rest of it out there, because he said it was a great match-up. And the question is he thinks he's faster than him."
In reality Jackson was originally asked if he expected Revis to follow him for a majority of the game Sunday as was the case when the two last met in December 2011.
The head coach was rather testy in his comments on the subject and gave the impression that he had spoken to Jackson previously about what the NFC Offensive Player of The Week had said Tuesday.
Kelly went on to praise Revis as being among the best cornerbacks playing the game today.
The head coach also reitterated that quarterback Michael Vick remains day-to-day with a hamstring pull. The quarterback took part once again in warmups while the media is permitted to view practice and was seen jogging between drills with the head coach and appeared much less gimpy than he did on Tuesday.
One difference between the first two practices of the week was unlike Tuesday when Vick did not take part in any of the seven-on-seven or 11-on-11 team drills, the head coach said that if Vick felt up to participating in those periods that he would work him into those drills.
"We'll see how he feels as we get going in practice today," Kelly said. "We'll adjust accordingly."
Nick Foles and Matt Barkley each took reps during warmups alongside Vick and it is expected that Foles will make his first start of the season, returning to the site of his first NFL win as a starting quarterback in 2012.
Kelly admitted to watching that game tape but that his staff was focused on what the Buccaneers defense brings to the table.
