Wednesday afternoon, Jeffrey Lurie explained the decision for the Eagles to fire Chip Kelly.
Just over 24 hours after being fired by the Eagles, Kelly released his first public statement since the news broke on Tuesday night.
"I'm grateful to Jeffrey Lurie for allowing me to coach his Philadelphia Eagles for the past three seasons," Kelly said in the press release. "I deeply regret that we did not bring this great city and its fans the championship they deserve."
Kelly also thanked his coaching staff and players over the three seasons, noting that he will miss and be rooting for those players in the future.
"I was blessed to work with a gifted and hard-working coaching staff every day, and they will succeed wherever they go," Kelly said. "Finally, my players mean the world to me. I will miss them very much and I will be rooting for them to achieve their dreams.
"Life is all about responding to challenges and seizing opportunities."
The Eagles close out the 2015 season on Sunday, while a search for Kelly's replacement is already underway.
