Following the win that moved the Eagles to 3-0 for the first time since 2004 was the comment that seemed to overshadow it all. Cary Williams called out his head coach on behalf of his teammates.
Late last night, it was the talk of the town. What was Chip Kelly's reaction?
"I'll talk to Cary on Tuesday," the Eagles head coach said.
Williams and Kelly met on Monday to talk it over. Kelly said he and Williams have an understanding.
"I know we ask our guys to run a lot during practice," Kelly said. "I met with Cary just a little while ago, he came in on his own today. I think he was frustrated. I understand that. Cary's a competitor. I got no issues with Cary."
But the story certainly isn't dead. While Kelly joked that Williams making the comments to the media were because "you guys are everywhere," he did make sure Williams knows any issues can be taken up with him.
"I told him he can come talk to me," Kelly said. "But I think he knows that. I think he also understands in some places you can't talk to the coach. My door is always open. Anybody can come talk to me."
Kelly also defended the practice style that the Eagles have used since he took over as head coach. The focus remains on individual players and not overworking the team.
"We assess everybody daily," Kelly said. "So they all tell and we monitor every player daily, so it's all done on an individual basis. You'll see some guys that aren't going full on a day, and other guys that are going full. It's all done on an individual basis. We take care of everybody from that standpoint."
