With all the other injuries that the Eagles have suffered this season, it is easy to forget those that have not been discussed as the players have been absent since training camp. Players like Paul Worrilow, Mack Hollins or Chris Maragos.
Safety and special teams ace Chris Maragos was in his second straight season as a captain for the Philadelphia Eagles last season. In a game against the Carolina Panthers, the veteran tore his PCL and was placed on IR for the remainder of the season.
Maragos was under contract through the 2019 season, but the Eagles placed him on the Physically Unable to Preform (PUP) list at the beginning of the season. This is what opened up a roster spot for a special teams player like D.J. Alexander. The Birds also reworked Maragos’ contract in the offseason so that he will be a free agent following this season and has no impact on the Eagles’ salary cap.
On Tuesday, Maragos announced, via his Twitter account that he would be undergoing another surgery.
Family, if you think about it today pray for me as I head in for surgery!! pic.twitter.com/0NnooAY9k2

Maragos was not able to return this season. His PUP designation means he would have needed to begin practicing with the team by week 11. When he had not practiced with the team prior to the second Giants game of the season, he was officially out all season long.
2018 would have been Maragos’ ninth season in the league. While the exact type of surgery isn’t yet known, it looks increasingly more likely that the run that saw the Eagles win Super Bowl LII may have been the final season playing for the veteran special teamer. If Maragos is able to participate in training camps next season, he will have been out of the game for more than a year and a half.
