Cliff Lee got his first win at Citizens Bank Park since
September 5, 2011. He had 99 pitches with 77 strikes in seven
innings along with an RBI double. He faced 26 batters and struck out five. He
gave up seven hits, one run with one error.
The bats warm up when Frandsen starts the fifth inning with
a base hit then advances to second on a passed ball. Harper makes a great catch
at center on a Kratz broken bat for the first out of the inning. Cliff Lee hits
a double to take the lead at 1-0. Jimmy Rollins hits a two-run homerun into the
right field seats, 3-0. After the
homerun, the MASN announcers said, “The Phillies are being very rude indeed to
the Nats.” Pierre hits a single, and Washington’s bullpen begins to warm up.
Utley flies out to Harper for the second out. Pierre steals second for his 32nd
stolen base of the year. Ryan Howard takes a two out walk. Mayberry pops up to
end the inning, stranding two.
Tom Gorzelanny is the new left-handed pitcher for Washington
replacing Harper. Laynce Nix scorched a ball into the right field seats, making
the game 4-0. Frandsen gets a hit up the middle with no outs, but is a victim
in a Kratz double play. Lee struck out swinging for the third out.
Lee overthrows the ball to first on a Jayson Werth swinging
bunt, giving him a single and an error allowing Werth to get to second. That is
the 80th error of the year for the Phillies. LaRoche hit what looked
like a two run homerun, but it bounced off the top of the rail and was caught,
but because LaRoche and Werth were in a homerun trot, LaRoche was tagged out
between second and third and Werth was moved to third. LaRoche ended up being
tagged out by a 8-4-2-6 play. Moore brings Werth home with a double to left,
4-1.
Horst was brought in for 1/3 of an inning with one hit and
three pitches. Lindblom had an excellent 1 2/3 innings facing five batters and
striking out three. He got his first save of the season tonight.
Jayson Werth went 2 for 12 with seven strikeouts in this series.
The Phillies have swept the Nationals, bringing them to 61-67,
third in the NL East. The Phils still have a month of games to go and have not
rolled over yet. They still have a very good chance at reaching .500 if not
going over that.
Vance Worley faces Chris Young of the Mets at Citizens Bank
Park on Tuesday at 7:05.
