The Phillies were looking to shake off a horrendous four-game series in
Houston in which they lost three of four. Cliff Lee was set to start
against R.A. Dickey and the Mets, hoping to gain some ground in the
wildcard standings.
The Phillies got an early lead tonight in
Flushing with an RBI sac fly to center field from Chase Utley, scoring
Jimmy Rollins. 1-0 Phils.
Cliff Lee looked very sharp. Lee allowed just one run on seven hits in eight innings, striking out 10 (including his 1500th career strikeout) and walking just one. R.A. Dickey looked equally
impressive, struck out eight and only walked two, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits in seven innings.
In
the top of the 5th inning, Rollins legged out a triple, however,
umpires used instant replay to correctly rule the ball a home run. His 21st of the season. Phillies extend their lead, 2-0. Interseting fact about Rollins: It's
the 4th time Rollins has hit 20+ in a season. One of only 12 shortstops
all-time with at least four 20 HR seasons. Jimmy Rollins 3rd all time with 4 yrs of 20 HR, 30 SB.
In the bottom of the 5th, the Mets cut the lead, 2-1 on a bloop single
by Daniel Murphy, however, the Phillies would get that run back when Dom Brown led off the seventh with his fourth homer.
Papelbon pitched a scoreless inning in the 9th to seal the win for both the Phillies and Cliff Lee.
Tomorrow night at 7:10, rookie Tyler Cloyd will take the hill for the Phillies against Mets' rookie, Matt Harvey.
