Just when you thought it was safe to go to sleep, Ron Hextall struck. The Flyers first move on deadline day came just short of 2 a.m.

The Flyers traded defenseman Braydon Coburn to the Tampa Bay Lightning for defenseman Radko Gudas, a first-round pick and a third-round pick.

Coburn was in his ninth season with the Flyers, playing in 576 games with the Orange and Black. He scored 37 goals and added 124 assists for 161 points in that time.

This season, Coburn had one goal and eight assists in 39 games.

Gudas, a six-foot, 204-pound defenseman was in his third season with the Lightning. He played 126 games with Tampa Bay, scoring seven goals and adding 25 assists for 32 points.

Gudas underwent knee surgery in January and will be out for the remainder of the season. However, the 24-year-old is under contract through the 2015-16 season when he becomes a restricted free agent. His salary cap hit next season is just under $1 million.

Prior to the injury, Gudas had two goals and three assists in 31 games this season.

The two draft picks are in the upcoming draft in June. This gives the Flyers two first-round picks and two third-round picks in addition to the second-round pick they acquired in the Kimmo Timonen trade with Chicago.

The Flyers also did not retain any of Coburn's salary in the deal.
