Cody Asche is expected to return to the big leagues tomorrow. Asche hit the DL on May 22nd with a hamstring injury. Before hitting the DL, Asche was a very hot hitter, having 16 hits in his last 50 at-bats, including two homers, four doubles, and 11 RBISs. That raised his average to .258.
Though the Phillies third basemen have been hitting better, thanks mostly to Reid Brignac (.266 10 RBIs in 23 games), they still need some help. Entering last Monday, Phillies third basemen were only hitting .202 (17 for 84) since Asche hit the DL.
The Phillies can expect a red hot Cody Asche returning tomorrow. Since starting his rehab assignment, Cody has been on a tear. In his first three games in Single A Lakewood, Cody went 3 for 7 with two homers and three walks. In his first game at Triple A Leigh Valley yesterday, Asche went 3 for 3 with a double. Entering tonight’s game at Leigh Valley Cody is 6-10 with 10 RBIs. So far in tonight’s game Cody is 2-3 with a homer, a walk, and two RBIs in the eighth inning, bringing his rehab assignment average to .615 with 12 RBIs. Cody will be a welcome addition to a Phillies team that just swept the Braves and a team that is still very much in the mix for the NL East currently only 4.5 games back and could move to 4 games with an Astros win over the Nationals.
