Cole Hamels hands Matt Harvey his first 2015 Loss as Phillies down Mets

Final: Phillies 3, Mets 1

WP: Cole Hamels  (2-3, 3.68 ERA) LP: Matt Harvey  (5-1, 2.72 ERA)

Philadelphia, PA –  In what was billed as one of the better pitching match ups of the season, Cole Hamels faced the undefeated Matt Harvey.

The Phillies got to Harvey quick when Freddy Galvis singled in the first and stole second. Ryan Howard drove him in with and RBI single. Cole Hamels was lights out the first three innings but ran into a jam in the 4th due to some wildness and Michael Cuddyer would tie the game on a wild pitch. The tie wasn't for long as Howard hit the go ahead home run on Harvey's first pitch in the bottom of the inning. They would notch one more off him in the 5th with an RBI single from Ben Revere to drive in Carlos Ruiz. After Hamels' struggles in the 4th, he would settle down and go seven strong. Harvey would leave after the 6th on the hook for his first loss of the season.

The back end of the bullpen was almost a story of it's own. Ken Giles entered in the 8th and pitched the best inning of his season retiring the hearts of the Mets line up in order. Jonathan Papelbon came in in the 9th and was greeted with a single from David Murphy. This set things up perfectly for the Mets' power threat as Lucas Duda came in to pinch hit. Papelbon would strike him out as well as Kevin Plawecki. He would get rookie second baseman Dilson Herrera to fly out to record his 112th Phillies save, tying Jose Mesa's franchise record in what was probably the best Phillies game of the season so far.
