Monday night proved successful for the Phillies as Cliff Lee and his team earned a solid 3-1 win against the Mets. The Phillies got an early lead and maintained it until the end. Hitting and pitching was on point as Lee struck out ten. He earned his sixth win of the year, while helping his team defeat the Mets. Yesterday's scheduled game was postponed due to rain. It will be played tomorrow. The Phils will continue their late-season chase for the Wild Card tonight as Cole Hamels (15-16, 3.06 ERA) against talented rookie Matt Harvey (3-5 2.92 ERA).
Tonight, Cole Hamels will take the mound for the Phils looking to earn his career-high 16th win. Over his past seven starts, Hamels is 4-0 and has been spectacular. On Friday, against Houston, Hamels struck out eight over seven innings in a win against the Astros. In three starts against the Mets this season, but just 5-10 in all twenty of his career outings against them.
Matt Harvey has had a consistent season and is hoping to help his team win only their second game out of the last 11. In his last start, a week ago today against Washington, Harvey tossed five innings of one-run ball. He struck out 10 and walked three despite taking the loss. He will make his final start of the 2012 Major league season this evening due to an innings limit.
It has come down to 14 games and only 15 days for the Phillies. As they look to earn the National League's second Wild Card, the Cardinals keep a step ahead of them. With the Cards' win over the Astros on Tuesday, they have left the Phils four games behind. The Phillies also have Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and Pittsburgh ahead of them in the standings.
