Fantastic. Outstanding. Spectacular. Masterful. Anyway you want to say it, Cole Hamels was all of that and beyond tonight against Mike Minor and the Braves.
The three runs the Phillies scored tonight would be enough for Cole who shut out Atlanta in a complete game effort.
The runs would come in the first inning, and that would pretty much be it for offense in the game. First, Domonic Brown doubled to center to score Jimmy Rollins. Next, Ryan Howard blasted a two-run homer to straightaway center, bringing the Phillies to a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the ninth, Cole Hamels allowed a single to Tyler Pastornicky, but struck out the next batter and got Martin Prado to groundout for the end of the game.
Cole tonight allowed just five hits, walked none, and struck out six in nine innings. He tossed 111 pitches, 78 for strikes.
So, the Phillies finally have a win against the Braves. That snaps a seven-game losing streak to them. They'll look to take the series tomorrow at 7:05 with Kyle Kendrick on against Tim Hudson.
