Cole Hamels Will Throw Bullpen Session Wednesday

Six days after having a throwing session cancelled due to elbow fatigue, Phillies ace Cole Hamels is slated to take the bullpen mound on Wednesday, according to Ryne Sandberg.

This offseason, the 30-year-old lefty had been dealing with shoulder tendinitis. At the beginning of March, Hamels had fatigue issues during a bullpen session. When speaking to the media about how he felt after that 35-pitch bullpen session, Cole said it felt like he had thrown 1,000 pitches. If the bullpen session went without issue, Hamels was supposed to face live hitting soon after.

With Hamels' latest setback, his return date is still unknown, but will likely be later in April or early in May. Cole pitched 220 innings last season for the Phillies, the most since 2008 when the team won the World Series.

Hamels is entering his ninth season with the Phillies. He is 99-74 with a 3.38 ERA in his career.
