New York, NY – In what was a pitcher's duel for most of the evening at Citi Field, New York Mets' veteran right hander Bartolo Colon ultimately prevailed over Philadelphia Phillies' rookie Jerad Eickhoff, who was making his third career start.
Two home runs off the bats of Michael Conforto and Curtis Granderson in the bottom of the fifth inning was all the Mets needed to secure their 10th consecutive victory against the Phillies, which ties a franchise record set back on June 28, 1972.
The Phillies have now lost 24 of their last 29 games against the Mets. They must win each of their remaining five games against their division rivals to avoid their worst single-season record against them in franchise history.

The first baserunner of tonight's game did not reach until the top of the second inning, when Phillies' third baseman Andres Blanco hit a two-out single to center field.
The Mets did not reach base until the bottom of the third inning. Despite a single by left fielder Michael Conforto and a walk by right fielder Curtis Granderson, the scoring threat went for naught as center fielder Yoenis Cespedes struck out to end the frame.
In the top of the fifth, the Phillies put two runners on for the first time of the night as both shortstop Freddy Galvis and Eickhoff singled with two outs. On the first pitch of the next at-bat, center fielder Odubel Herrera grounded out to third baseman David Wright for the final out of the inning.
The first run of the night came off the bat of Conforto in the bottom of the fifth inning, as he went yard for the fourth time of the season.
Following a single by Colon, his seventh hit of the season and the 19th of his 18-year career, Granderson launched a two-run shot to right field to give the Mets a 3-0 lead. This was the outfielder's 260th career home run, which concurrently raised his career RBI total to 730.
The Phillies would be held off of the board until the top of the ninth inning.
With the bases loaded and nobody out against Mets' closer Jeurys Familia, right fielder Jeff Francoeur brought home Philadelphia's only run through grounding into a double play.
Colon has thrown 15 shutout innings over his last two starts against the Phillies, allowing a combined nine hits and three walks.
