Preview:

After
a Monday Night Football routing of the Eagles by the Saints, Philadelphia (3-5)
will return home to take on division rival Dallas (3-5). The second and third
place (respectively) teams in the NFC East are both playing for their seasons
on Sunday. There is no easier y to say it. Neither team can afford a loss, and
Dallas is coming off a game in which they were a fingertip away from defeating
the undefeated Falcons. This means neither team has much momentum coming into
the game, so this one is truly a toss-up.

This
one is going to be interesting. That’s something you would not normally say
about a matchup of 3-5 teams. However, the repercussions that would be produced
in a win or loss for either team will be intriguing. Take a look at what could,
and will most likely, happen in both results (assuming that the infamous “tie
game” does not rear its ugly head again) this Sunday.

Eagles Win: If Andy Reid’s squad
manages to pull out the victory tomorrow, it does not mean they’re going to
make the playoffs. It doesn’t even mean that their position in the NFC East
will improve. However, it means the season will still be hanging on by one of
Reid’s long whiskers. It means that Coach’s job will be intact for one more
week, and that the Foles era in Philly will be forced to wait at least one more
week (assuming that one of the many sacs the Cowboys will have doesn’t turn
Vick into a pile of rubble, and even then, Vick still has a chance). For the
Cowboys, the season will be over. They would need to go 6-1 the rest of the way
to even think about payoffs. Plus, much like Reid, Cowboy’s head coach Jason
Garrett is on the chopping block. It could be another disappointing year in
Dallas, and it could even be the end of the Tony Romo (and his girlfriends)
era. He could, however, find a job at the Victoria’s Secret in Cowboys Stadium.

Cowboys Win: The entire city of
Philadelphia will erupt in flames. Of course, I’m kidding (maybe). But the
fallout of an Eagles loss to the Boys will send shock waves throughout the fan
base. First off, it would put the Cowboys at 4-6 and give them a chance at the
playoffs, emphasis on the word chance. In Eagledelphia (yay!), it could be the
end of some big names in the city. While I still believe Andy won’t be let go
until the end of the year, the chance of him being fired on Monday greatly
increases. The chance of Nick Foles becoming number one on the depth charts
also goes up. That is just the tip of the iceberg of what fallout could come in
an Eagles loss. Lineman, coaches, and other personnel would all be in danger.
Depending on who you ask, a loss would be the best thing for the team.

I
tried to determine who the players to watch would be in this one, but I came to
an obvious decision. EVERYONE should be watched in this one. The entire team
has underperformed this season, so no one is truly safe. I also thought about
looking for an increase in running plays, but I have come to the conclusion
that will never happen in the Andy Reid era. It has also been mentioned briefly
before that the offensive line is just…awful. Then, to make the hurt really
sink in, tackle Todd Herremans injured his ankle and will be out the rest of
the year. Oy. The only way the Eagles can win is to let LeSean McCoy run all
over the field, but even that doesn’t guarentee a victory against a pretty
formidable Cowboys rush defense. It will be very interesting to see just how
this matchup plays out for both squads.

Eagledelphia Staff Predictions:

A
quick shoutout to Kevin Durso, who’s 28-17 loss for the Eagles prediction was
the closest last week.

Frank Klose

Cowboys 24, Eagles 17

More of the same.

Christine Schramm

Cowboys 10, Eagles 7

Both teams look like they've given up. It'll either be very low or very high.

Andrew Gillen

Cowboys 13, Eagles 14

It
took me quite a while to formulate this score. It really is going to be a close
matchup for these teams, but for all the wrong reasons. Nothing is going to go
right for either team, and it will truly come down to who can somehow weasel
their way into points. I’ve given the Eagles a victory for this game, but I
would not come close to being surprised if the Cowboys found a way to pull this
one off.
