Some good news on the Phillies injury front. The Phillies' bench has been incredibly impotent, something that the Phillies are really feeling this week in Toronto when they need a designated hitter. Darin Ruf, tabbed to be a backup outfielder and first baseman and right-handed bat off the bench, is close to returning.
Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports help is on the way:
Darin Ruf will start a rehab assignment tomorrow with Class A Clearwater.

A rehab assignment may only last 15 days.
The odd man out would likely be John Mayberry Jr. Mayberry is just 1 for his last 16 with three walks. Mayberry is hitless since April 21, when he went 1 for 4. Mayberry's other three hits came April 4 or earlier; he had two hits in the opening series against the Rangers and one hit against the Chicago Cubs in the second series.
