The Phillies made a few roster moves today after their two, 14-inning games against the Mets. Jeff Manship will be heading to the 15-day disabled list with a quad strain while Darin Ruf has been optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The Phillies have recalled Phillippe Aumont and purchased the contract of Cesar Jimenez as the corresponding roster moves.

Jeff Manship heads to the disabled list after pitching four shutout innings with six strikeouts against the Mets. He suffered a right quad strain while running out a ground ball in the 13th inning. Manship has been a part of the Phillies inconsisent bullpen all year with a 1-1 record and an ERA of 5.89. You have to wonder what the Phils will do when he is healthy.
Darin Ruf goes back to the Ironpigs after a short stint with Philadelphia when Cliff Lee was placed on the disabled list. Although many were calling for Ruf to get more playing time, they didn't think that it would be in the minors. During his seven games with the Phillies, he had one hit in 10 at-bats, which was a solo home run. Ruf walked once and struck out four times. Lehigh Valley should give him the opportunity to play every day.
Making their way back to Philadelphia are Phillippe Aumont and Cesar Jimenez. Neither of them have seen time with the Phillies this season. Aumont, a disappointing reliever acquired in the Cliff Lee trade with Seattle, isn't turning too many heads with the Ironpigs. In 18 games, he has a 4.13 ERA. Control has always been the issue for the 6-7 right-hander and it hasn't gotten much better. Aumont has struck out 26 hitters and walked 21. In his last ten games with Lehigh Valley, he has given up eight earned runs in 14.1 innings. Last season with the Phillies, Aumont appeared in 22 games and posted a 4.91 ERA in just under 20 innings.
Joining Aumont in the bullpen from Triple-A is Cesar Jimenez, who has had an impressive season with the Ironpigs. In 19 games, he is 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA and three saves. Jimenez has struck out 22 hitters and walked seven. He pitched in 19 games for the big club last year, posting a 3.71 ERA over 19 innings of work. Jimenez has not allowed a run over his last ten appearances, so the Phillies have to hope that his minor league success this season rolls over to the majors.
Update (11:52am) Since Jimenez was not on the 40-man roster, the Phillies have announced they have designated Jeremy Horst for assignment. He was 1-1 with a 4.35 ERA with Lehigh Valley this season. He posted a 6.23 ERA while with the Phillies last season over 28 appearances.
