He did it again!

Phillies minor-leaguer Darin Ruf has homered for the 37th time this season for the Reading Phillies. The 26 year-old first baseman broke Ryan Howard's single-season home run record at Reading this evening.

Ruf has been on a tear all season, but in August he has been absolutley unstoppable. In 27 games this month, Ruf is hitting .359 with 18 HR, 29 RBI all while scoring 26 runs. Ruf has walked 10 times and holds a .431 OBP, a .922 SLG and a 1.353 OPS.

In 2004, Ryan Howard slammed 37 home runs for the Reading Phillies in 102 games. He also hit .297 for the season and raked in 102 RBI for Reading.

It is unclear if the Phillies will call up Ruf, who is hitting .317 in 132 games (465 at bats) this season. It'd be great to see if Ruf can hit the ball up in the bigs like he is over in Reading.
