It's really no question at all that the Philadelphia Eagles missed running back Darren Sproles last season on their way to winning Super Bowl LII.
The 34-year-old broke his arm and tore his ACL on the same play in a Week 3 win over the New York Giants.
But Sproles is a free agent, and the Eagles are already crowded at running back. Jay Ajayi returns for the Birds, and so does Corey Clement, who does many of the same things that Sproles does. The Eagles also have Wendell Smallwood and Donnell Pumphrey waiting in the wings.
But Sproles adds something special on special teams, something none of the team's running backs nearly have the same expertise. Sproles happens to be one of the NFL's greatest special teams players of all-time.
Head Coach Doug Pederson told the media on Tuesday morning his interest and intent on keeping Sproles around for his 14th season in the league.
Doug Pederson hasn’t closed door on a Darren Sproles return. Said the #Eagles have talked to him through the FA process. “I want him to be an Eagle.”

Obviously, cap space will remain to be an issue to be conscious of, as Howie Roseman has already proven so far this offseason. The Eagles have already had one of the more productive free agencies in the NFL, and that's still after winning the franchise's first Super Bowl championship.
Sproles is a fan favorite in Philadelphia, and for the right price, would be a logical third option for the Eagles in 2018.
