David Buchanan aims to build on strong start, earn first win since July

Behind a two home run night from third baseman Cody Asche, the Phillies gave Pete Mackanin his first win as a full-time manager. Earlier this week, Andy MacPhail announced that Mackanin's contract has been extended through 2016 with an option for 2017. Pete went 83-99 during his time as an interim manager with three different teams.

Tonight in Miami, the Phillies will look to keep their offense going behind David Buchanan, who is seeking his first win since July 21st. The Marlins are aiming to even the series as they send rookie left-hander Adam Conley to the mound.

Starting Pitching Match-up:

Philadelphia Phillies (57-94) Miami Marlins (64-87)
RHP David Buchanan LHP Adam Conley
2-9, 8.49 ERA 4-1, 4.22 ERA

After securing a spot in the rotation prior to the season, David Buchanan's performance had him flip-flopping between the big leagues and the minors. He has plenty of success in Lehigh Valley this season, going 5-2 with a 2.54 ERA in 12 starts. Since returning to the rotation on September 9th, he's looked more comfortable on the mound. His most recent outing came on the 15th against the Nationals. In six innings, he gave up just two runs as the Phillies lost, 4-0. He is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 16 2/3 innings spanning three starts in his career against the Marlins.

Miami will send 25-year-old Washington State alumni Adam Conley to the mound in hopes of evening the series up at one a piece. The rookie southpaw has appeared in 12 games this season for the Marlins, eight of which have been starts. He's faced the Phillies once this season, back on August 23rd. He was the hard-luck loser, getting no run support in Miami's 2-1 loss. He hurled six innings of one-run ball, striking out five. In his most recent start, he shut out the first place Mets over seven innings, scattering just three hits while striking out six.
