David Buchanan Makes Major League Debut as Phillies Look to Tie Series

Yesterday, Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers shut out the Phillies, 2-0. This afternoon, the Phillies will send rookie David Buchanan to hill to make his major league debut. Buchanan was absolutely stellar in spring training. In five games pitched during Grapefruit League action, Buchanan went 12 innings and posted a 2.25 ERA. This season in Leigh Valley, Buchanan has gone 5-1 with a 3.98 ERA in nine starts.  You can expect Buchanan to sit around 90-93 mph on his fastball, but can hit as high as 95 mph. He accompanies that with a plus two-seam fastball, plus slider, plus curveball and a serviceable changeup. The Dodgers will oppose Buchanan with veteran, Dan Haren. Haren has had a good year going 5-2 with a 3.18 ERA in nine starts.

Game Notes:

  • Phillies will send Luis Garcia to the DL with a right forearm strain in order to make room for Buchanan on the 25-man roster
  • Cesar Hernandez will get his second start in a row at third base as Asche gets a breather, also Revere returns to the starting lineup.
