Never change, Dawn Staley!

University of South Carolina women’s basketball coach and Philadelphia native Dawn Staley offered an honest assessment of her team’s performance in the NCAA Women’s National Championship Game

“They beat our ass, but they didn’t make us like it.”

Well now.

The highly anticipated Women’s title game between Staley’s Gamecocks and Geno Auriemma’s University of Connecticut Huskies turned into a whimper. UConn, thanks to 17-points from Paige Bueckers, rolled to an 82-59 win and their 12th Women’s National Championship.

Staley, who started at Dobbins Technical High School and later the University of Virginia, wore her emotions on her sleeve as her team attempted to win their third National Championship in four seasons. The former Temple University women’s hoops coach was shown on camera uncharacteristically dropping an expletive.

In the end, Staley put frustrations aside and “hugged” it out with Auriemma – a Norristown, PA native– as the game came to a close.
