D’Backs use three-run 7th inning to sink Phillies

Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia Phillies (22-44) looked to be heading towards their second straight win, but the Diamondbacks (42-26) had other plans, erasing a two-run deficit to earn a 5-4 win on Friday night at Citizens Bank Park. Arizona has now won five straight and eight of their last nine while the Phillies drop their ninth game in the last 10.

Aaron Nola looked to be putting together a third straight strong start, but things unraveled in the seventh inning. He allowed five runs in six innings, striking out six and walking two. Nola entered the seventh, but allowed a single and a home run, ending his outing. He came into the game with a 2.77 ERA in June, but that jumped to 4.26 after tonight's outing.

Offensively for the Phils, Odubel Herrera went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Cameron Rupp went 1-for-3 with homer, an RBI, walk and a strikeout. Maikel Franco finished the game 1-for-4 with a triple and two RBI's.

D'Backs starter Patrick Corbin got the win, hurling six innings and giving up four runs (two earned). Gregor Blanco went 2-for-5 out of the lead-off spot for Arizona, tallying two RBI's and a run. David Peralta had a three-hit night for the Diamondbacks.

Trailing 2-0 in the fourth, Odubel Herrera slapped a triple into the gap in right center. Howie Kendrick drove him in with an RBI groundout, cutting the lead in half. In the fifth, Cameron Rupp, sporting a clean shave, belted a solo shot over the fence in right center field to tie things up at two. With two runners on and two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Maikel Franco poked a double into the left center field gap, plating both Odubel Herrera and Aaron Altherr, giving Philadelphia a 4-2 lead.

That didn't last long though, as Gregor Blanco launched a two-run homer into the right field stands during the top of the seventh, locking the game up at 4-4 and knocking Aaron Nola out of the game. With a runner on, Paul Goldschmidt hit a single against Pat Neshek and Jake Lamb followed with a sacrifice fly, putting the Diamondbacks back in the driver's seat, 5-4.

The Phillies threatened in the bottom half of the seventh, putting two runners on via walks with just one out. Unfortunately, Odubel Herrera and Howie Kendrick were unable to capitalize and the inning ended with no runs across the plate for the home team.
