Defensive options for next season

Carlo

With Pronger's career likely over, losing Matt Carle, and Andrej Meszároš likely to miss almost the whole season with surgery for a torn achilles tendon, the Flyers are short in the Defensive catergory. In the picture above, that is Blues defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo, who is an option for the Flyers. They already missed out of Ryan Suter, after he ended up signing with the Wild, and the Predators matched the deal on the offer sheet sent the Flyers sent to defenseman Shea Weber, who's one of the best defensemen in the league. Flyers have a few established NHL defensemen such as: Braydon Coburn, Bruno Gervais, Nicklas Grossmann, Luke Schenn, Kimmo Timonen, and Andreas Lilja. Lilja, whos going on 38-years-old, only played 46 games with the Flyers last season, and scored no goals, and had only 6 assists. The Flyers are in need of another key defensive piece to have success. They need someone like Carlo Colaiacovo, who had 19 points, and 81 blocked shots last season. There are other Free Agent defensemen options such as: P.K. Subban, whos only 23-years-old, and scored  7 goals, and 29 assists which added up for 36 points for him last season. There's also Rangers defensemen Michael Del Zotto who is a restricted Free Agent right now but he's only 22-years-old, and had 10 goals, and 41 points last season. More realisticly we'll get guys like: Douglass Murray and Dan Boyle, both members of the San Jose Sharks. Dan Boyle can score goals and get many assists, unlike Murray. Murray is more basically just defensive with little offense. Boyle does both very well. All-in-all, the Flyers have plenty more options and plenty more time to make a move. Holmgren will most likely make a couple more moves soon.
