Delmon Young is Slightly Less Fat

Dyoung

Remember that $750K contract ALCS MVP Delmon Young signed with the Phillies in January, the one that pays him to stop eating so much? Well the former Detroit Tiger has successfully starved himself to reach his first $600K incentive. In even better news (well, depending on who you are), Young's recovery from offseason ankle surgery is going better than initially expected. According to Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Junior, the controversial outfielder could play his first game in a Phillies uniform in mid- to late-April.

A few other bits of Delmon Young news arrived today as well. Should Young continue on the training program he is on now, the team firmly believes he can patrol the outfield relatively well. However, his time in Citizens Bank Park won't be in left field. Amaro told the media that Delmon won't be in left field because "He's not a good left fielder" and "He doesn't want to play there."

Huh. Not only is Young not good (in left field, and probably more), he's deciding where he will and won't play. Maybe there are contract terms we didn't hear about.

Anyhow, this all but guarantees Dom Brown will make the move over to the former home of Pat the Bat. With much of Spring Training remaining, there is still time for Brown to continue getting used to the new digs.
