This is bigger news than it needs to be, probably because everybody freaked out about it. With thousands of people turning to Facebook and Twitter to scream about Michael Martinez, it would be a shame if the signing never came true because all that angst would be for naught.
Kevin Cooney of the Bucks County Courier Times, tweeted that the report surrounding Michael Martinez elicited a denial from a Phillies official:

Cooney said that the beat writers got a text message saying it was not true. Further, MLBTradeRumors.com apologized for reporting Martinez's signing and said it wasn't correct. But alas, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation's MLB Daily Dish stands by his report:
