David Barnett, the brother of Eagles defensive end Derek Barnett, was killed early Tuesday morning. David was 33.
The hit-and-run was reported at 3:25 a.m. near Nashville, Tennessee. Barnett was reportedly involved in the head-on collision with 47-year-old Felipe Castelblanco. Castelblanco has been charged with vehicular homicide due to intoxication.
Derek Barnett had 16 tackles, 10 quarterback hits and two and a half sacks in six games this season prior to landing on the injured reserve.
Derek was the first-round pick of the Eagles in the 2017 NFL Draft and played a key part in winning the franchise’s first Super Bowl Championship. He had 23 tackles, 18 QB hits, six sacks, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries, including the one against Tom Brady in the Super Bowl, during the 2017 season.
