DeSean Jackson: Darrelle Revis Can’t Run With Me
DeSean Jackson threw down the gauntlet Tuesday in advance of his one-on-one matchup with Darrelle Revis in Sunday's game in Tampa Bay.
In a game with many interesting subplots already, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson pinned some extra bulletin board material for Darrelle Revis ahead of Sunday's showdown with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"I definitely expect [Revis] to follow me, we played them two years ago and he followed me then to.. But I don't think he can't run with me, I don't think he's as fast as me" Jackson told reporters Tuesday following practice at the Novacare Complex. "I definitely feel that my speed and ability to be a deep threat, I feel comfortable and confident against anyone who is guarding me one-on-one."
Certainly a bold proclamation from Jackson who enters week six on pace for 1,600 yards. In the first five weeks of the season the has posted 28 catches for 525 yards and three touchdowns.
"I don't want to turn this into a one-on-one thing," Jackson explained. "It isn't me against Revis, or anything like that' It's the Eagles aganst the Tampa Bay and at the end of the day that's all that matters."
Revis and Jackson met on December 18th 2011 at Lincoln Financial Field and Revis held Jackson to just two catches for 28 yards in an Eagles blowout 45-19 win over the New York Jets.
Score that battle in favor of Revis.
Widely considered to be among-if not the best- cornerback in the NFL, Revis has become an anchor on Tampa Bay's rebuilt defense posting 16 tackles, one forced fumble and one interception in the team's first four games of the season.
Jackson complimented Revis' ability to play both press and off the ball due to his strength and instincts as a veteran defender.
While all eyes will likely be trained on the Eagles quarterback position this week as Michael Vick is listed as day-to-day and returned to practice Tuesday despite suffering a left hamstring injury against the Giants on Sunday, it certainly will be worth keeping eyes and ears keyed on the impending one-on-one battle between Jackson and Revis.
